This is some of the oldest housing on the island, and it cleans differently from a new build. Kaimuki and Kapahulu are full of single-wall homes from the plantation era, with wood floors, built-in cabinets and jalousie windows. Kahala and Waialae run larger and more finished, but plenty of those houses are decades old too.
Jalousie windows are the clearest example of what that means. A wall of glass slats has many times the surface area of a single picture window, and every slat has two sides and a track holding it. They are the first thing to get skipped on a rushed clean, and the first thing people notice when they finally get done properly.
Older homes also mean more trim, more built-ins, and more corners. Our teams work to a fixed checklist so that detail work happens on every visit rather than only when somebody asks for it.
